Metal Polish and Polishing Myths

All Metal Polishes are created equally - Myths
Now come on this one is the most basic myth to bust, but we just have to go there. We will start with some metal polishes are made with abrasive's. Some metal polishes are oil based not water. Some metal polishes are supposed to work on a specific metal instead of all of them.

Chrome is not supposed to be polished it's supposed to be cleaned - Myths
Again, this is a simple one but not everyone thinks chrome is supposed to be polished. Chrome gets dirty and oxidizes just like any other metal and especially with chrome it can haze over and dull in look. A chrome polish can clean but also should polish the metal to a high gloss meaning it can be polished to look like platinum. Try Sheen Genie Chrome Polish then you will see if we are accurately busting this myth.

You have to use a buffer to polish - Myths
Not only is this not true because you can polish by hand but still it does not have to be a hard job to polish without a buffer. Our metal polish is designed to work hard for you. Buffers should only be used for polishing for when you are polishing a lot of metal like a 18 wheeler or a pontoon boat, pretty much a lot of metal.

Silicone is how metal polishes are wiped off fast - Myths
I am not sure where people come up with this, I guess it is because they have made a metal polish before, but no this is just another mth. The reason most people would think it is silicone is because silicone can be used in metal polish to help the ingredients not stick to the metal but you do not have to use silicone if you are using a water based metal polish. The metal polishes that are oil based should use silicone because that is what causes the polish to not bond and stick to the metal, but if you use a water based metal polish then it will wipe right off anyways. Key oil base polishes should use silicone SHOULD!

Anodized wheels can be polished to a chrome like finish - Myths
If a metal polish company or a person is telling you that your anodized wheels can be polished and polished to a high gloss then my recommendation is to hold on to your pocket book and watch your back because they are trying to get you. Anodized wheels are completely protected by the hardest longest lasting clear coat around. There is no way a metal polish can polish that surface at all. The best a metal polish can do is clean it. If you can not polish a clear coated rim to a chrome like finish then you most certainly can not polish an anodized wheel.

A high gloss polish should be used as a cleaner only - Myths
This one is one of my favorites and most frequently discussed in the metal polish industry of products. A good high gloss polish should take the dull finish and polish while cleaning. If the metal is highly oxidized a good high gloss polish should be able to remove it while cleaning and polishing. This is why it is called a high gloss metal polish & cleaner not just cleaner.

Wax can also be used as metal polish - Myths
This one has the WOW effect on us. There are actual companies out there that say this is a wax and it polishes metal! Have you ever used a normal wax that you bought from an automotive department store and tried it on your metal? If you have then you know it does not work that way. The only people that claim there wax can polish metal are the people who are trying to sell you on there gimmicky sells presentation, heard of a power sound bite that's all it is! Just because you can use it on paint and it's called wax on the label does not mean that a normal car wax will polish your metal at all. Don't believe us go try for yourself, get a normal car wax and see if you can polish some aluminum or jewelry with it!
