Tips To Maintain your Motorcycle

Riding a motorcycle is an extremely rewarding experience. For many people not only does the freedom of riding a motorcycle relieve stress, it brings people together and gives them a sense of great pride.

The tremendous amount of fun one gets by riding a motorocycle is second to none. The look, the sound and the feel of a motorcycle to those that enjoy it is exhilarating. Riding a motorcycle is also a great way to meet new people that share the same passion too. Many times you’ll see packs of motorcycles on the streets that belong to clubs. They often times travel hundreds of miles together depicting the resemblance of a family, because to them, they are all family members.

Owning a motorcycle is a big responsibility if you want to keep it looking great and running smoothly. Most of this has to do with proper maintenance. It’s imperative to take care of your bike to ensure safe riding and to avoid unnecessary accidents. Of course accidents can happen, but it doesn’t have to be because of neglect. As a matter of fact, well-treated motorcycles have longer lifespans and greater reliability, not to mention it’s cheaper to maintain than to repair.

Here are the list of things to consider to have a safer and problem free motorcycle:

  • Check and follow the manuals. It may be difficult to accept but the motorcycle manufacturer knows a lot more than anyone. Motorcycle producers are more than willing to share all the knowledge that they have about their product. Manuals have all information needed, including parts lists, oil type, how to maintain and how to repair.
  • Break it in right. The most crucial times of a motorcycle’s life are the first few hundred miles ridden, then the next few thousand miles. Consequences have to be faced, if motorcycles are not treated right during the early stages. Each motorcycle has its own protocol for break-in. Some manuals say to break in easy while others advise to run it hard. But what is the best way to break in an engine? The answer is to warm engine up completely before running it hard.
  • file0001022697084Change the oil regularly. This one of the best ways to make the engine last. Since motorcycle engines have lots of metal parts that go around at fast speeds, the only thing that keeps them from crumbling is a delicate amount of quality oil. Follow manufacturer’s recommendations on how often to change the oil.
  • Clean the air filter. Dirty air filters could cause airflow to cut off from the cylinders and allow foreign substances, like dirt and dust, to get in and beat at your valves internal bearings and cylinders.
  • Maintain correct air tire pressure. Low tire pressure is also one of the leading causes of poor gas mileage. Paying attention to tire air pressure can save a lot of money .
  • Grease the bearings. Too much grease can cause compression between the bearing surfaces, resulting to increased pressure and heat. When too little grease is added, the surface friction increases, resulting with heat.
  • Polish it. Motorcycle chrome is a very delicate metal because of the its bare surface area and consistent environment contact. It’s necessary to take care of chrome. Sheen Genie has specially designed motorcycle chrome polish that helps to properly care and restore chrome without harming and damaging it. Once it has been used to restore and shine all on metals on the motorcycle, Sheen Genie sealant effectively retains the polish and gloss that lasts up to 6 months.
  • Ride it properly. Common sense plays a big role here . The main thing for safety is the careful use of speed. Furthermore, practicing steady acceleration, easy braking and smooth turning save a heck of a lot in maintenance as it help lots of parts to last longer.
  • If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Don’t mess around with something if it’s working just fine. The risking of breaking something just to see if something might be wrong isn’t worth it. Just ride, enjoy and feel better.
